Read about Formula One Karting

November 19th, 2008

F1 motorsport is fundamentally the paramount of karting. It’s the professional design of the sport in its entirety. Formula 1 is enormous phenomenon, a multinational business enterprise that gets millions & millions of ? each & every year from marketing, sponsorship, and television revenue sources. Expert Formula One drivers with a millionaire bank balance race these wonderful vehicles that are supreme with technical mechanisms - everything from hard to generate lightweight casings that move the mechanism to tires with unmatched grooving style that presents the unbelievable power on the racing circuit.

There is currently no sport that best characterise the phrase “worldwide sport” like Formula 1 motor sport. Various countries are active members in developing the F1 racing show - Malaysia for example, is a hot spot for F1 racing (Fernando Alonso, a Spanish-born racing driver with Team Renault just won a race there) & Italy plays a crucial role in designing & making 1st class, top-of-the-line F1 cars. Rivalry is frequent in go-karting - providing an edge of enthusiasm with each and every zip of the curve & nitrous boost of the machine.

Formula 1 motor vehicles can be summed up in two words: hi-tech marvels. These smooth, low riding gems travelling around laps at speeds around 160 mph consist of nothing more than simply a framework, an engine, & 4 wheels. For a start, the engine is situated behind the cockpit as opposed to regular motor cars. Find a comprehensive collection of F1 Galleries for you to enjoy. Time To Ditch The Hotel …

November 19th, 2008

Copyright 2005 Chris Neilson

So it’s vacation time again. Woo Hoo !!!

The family has spent months debating where to go, what type of vacation they are looking for and whether or not to include Auntie Ethel in their plans again (following that particularly unfortunate incident with the well built waiter and what she thought was a pepper mill !)

With Auntie Ethel quickly out of the picture, and the whole clan having opted for a fun filled vacation, packed to the gunnels with action, adventure and magic, there can only be one destination … Florida.

No matter how you cut it, Florida has something for everyone, and nowhere more so than the Disney areas located around Orlando and Kissimmee. These central Florida locations are legendary, and despite being among the most popular in the world, retain a seemingly intimate charm which creates life long memories for those that venture there.

And so, with the destination finalised, your thoughts turn to hotels. But wait a minute… didn’t someone at work go to Florida last year and stay in a luxurious rental villa ? Yes of course ! You remember looking at the gorgeous interior shots of the house, and then the not so gorgeous shots of your work colleague’s husband in his Speedos ! Mind you, the private pool and the swaying palm trees looked wonderful !

And didn’t your colleague rave about the high standard of the accommodation and how much better and cheaper it was than staying in a cramped and musty hotel room ? Yes, again…. So what are you waiting for ?

Because the fact is that year on year, millions of vacationers from all around the globe are breaking with tradition, and ditching the bland and often over priced hotel chains in favour of privately owned luxury villas in the central Florida region.

To accommodate this appetite for a real home from home, numerous web sites have sprung up on the internet offering privately owned Florida villas for rent. Whilst some are “here today gone tomorrow” one hit wonders, without doubt, one of the very best, longest established and most highly ranked by both it’s clients and the search engines is Orlando Villas

This well managed and easy to navigate site will offer you a choice of stunning vacation homes, ranging in size from 3 to 7 bedrooms, all with private pools, and all within 10~20 minutes of the major theme parks and attractions. It’s literally an Aladdin’s cave of luxurious, yet affordable accommodation which can quite simply help to turn your regular holiday into a dream vacation.

We all work hard in order to afford to go on vacation, so why not make your money go further and your vacation experience the best it can possibly be, for both you and your family ? Why not break with tradition ? It’s time to ditch the hotel and live like a real Floridian on your next Disney vacation. I guarantee that once you’ve tried it, you’ll be hooked.

Local Explorations - Hello from Lake Ontario’s Waterfront Trail

November 18th, 2008

In our neck of the woods the summer has been absolutely gorgeous, a little on the hot and humid side occasionally, but I am unable to recall a summer that has been so warm and sunny as this summer of 2005.

The weekend before last I just felt like exploring the local area a little bit and since I was unable to pry my husband away from watching some of the season’s first football games, I struck out on my own and laid out an itinery for a little local discovery. I’ve said it before - this website is about exploration and discovery, locally and abroad. The places right underneath our noses often have so many things to discover, we don’t always need to get a plane ride away to uncover something new.

Since we spent so much time along Toronto’s waterfront during my brother’s visit, and since I am big suck for water in all shapes and forms, I thought let’s stretch the envelope a little further east and see what Lake Ontario has to offer outside of Toronto’s eastern city limits. More specifically, let’s check out the shoreline and Lake Ontario’s Waterfront Trail.

The Waterfront Trail extends for a total of 740 km and stretches all the way from Niagara-on-the-Lake in the southwest to Brockville in the east. Of course, 740 km in a day would be a bit much, so I focussed my explorations on the communities just east of Toronto: Pickering, Ajax and Whitby.

I started just on the west side of Toronto’s city limits at the estuary of the Rouge River, which forms part of a protected nature preserve. The river flows out in a lagoon setting and joins the lake just outside a long extended finger of sand, right beside a beautiful sandy beach. A video production company was just shooting a soca music video and the footbridge over the Rouge River was actually blocked off by the film crew. That didn’t deter a bunch of fishermen underneath the railway bridge from casting their lures in hopes of catching the big one.

My next stop was Pickering, the first community east of Toronto. I went down to the Liverpool Beachfront Park, which houses a brand new very attractive Cape Code style housing development, a marina and a restaurant surrounded by a marsh just inland from the shoreline. At the beachfront of Frenchman’s Bay there are various recreation facilities and the boardwalk takes you right up to the fences of the Pickering Nuclear Power Station.

Back in the car I went and I scoped out the next city further east: Ajax, which has a beautiful waterfront. I parked my car at Rotary Park which has a nice pavillion with a food concession, put on my inline skates and rolled eastwards past the Ajax Waterfront Park and Harwood Gardens to the east end of the Waterfront Park. Virtually all of downtown Ajax’ waterfront is parkland and near Lion’s Point and Harwood Gardens the shoreline is elevated, with many benches to sit down and rest and gaze out onto the infinite horizons of Lake Ontario.

I made a brief stop in Whitby, but by that time my stomach was growling and the nagging feeling in my digestive system made me decide to explore this area in more detail another time. I figured I gotta leave some of the nice stuff for next time.

After almost 20 years in Canada I had never explored these parts of Lake Ontario’s shoreline and I was amazed at how many beautiful spots I found. As fall approaches, I am planning to extend my discoveries and head out to discover some of Ontario’s brilliant fall colours and get to know my local neck of the woods a little better.

Learning via Micro Limit Poker

November 18th, 2008

Online poker is unique to brick and mortar online casino sect not only for their 24/7 access with rooms full of people, but also for the presence of ‘micro limit games,’ which are of too small stakes to offer at a ‘live’ casino. Micro limits, beginning with 1 and 2 cent blinds, while low in buy in and the amount of money on the table, can be a great way not only for those with smaller bank rolls or limits of risk to play, but also ways to teach yourself the intricacies of the game without losing a fortune in the process at the higher stakes tables.

Because poker is a game of numbers, it is a question of profits versus amount of money put in your pocket. If you can walk away with a profit from the lower stakes table consistently, you will begin to find that your confidence level increases and that you might be ready to move to higher limits.

But beyond just novice players, micro limit tables can be a great place to go in and try switching your game up in ways that you hadn’t before. Practicing more advanced play at a lower cost has its advantages, and may give you the ability to settle into ideas before applying them at higher levels.

It’s also fun sometimes just to blow off steam from a bad beat by going around and horsing every pot for a couple bucks until you’re laughing again and no longer stuck on the fact that your KK got sucked out by 4 9 offsuit.

Horse Riding Holiday in Iceland

November 18th, 2008

There’s something extremely heart wrenching about being sung
to. I wonder how many others were thinking this as the staff of
Ishestar Horse Treks stood up and belted out a
rousing song in Icelandic about riding across the highlands.
It’s day four of a very special riding holiday. Along with 19
other riders of mixed nationalities, I’m making an epic
journey across the centre of Iceland
, travelling from South
to North covering 238 kilometers of inhospitable terrain.

Covering between 25 and 50 kilometers a day over rugged terrain
at a fairly constant trot, this is a ride for experienced riders
who are used to long periods in the saddle. Accommodation is in
mountain huts and showers are few. This is a chance to say
goodbye to civilisation and convene with the Icelandic nature,
the elements and of course, the wonderful Icelandic horses.

On the first day, our guide Lola issues us with thick orange
rain gear, instructs us how to tack up the Icelandic way and
explains her commands for mounting and dismounting. She explains
that we will ride in a line. Not because this is any nose to
tail ride, quite the opposite, each horse is very responsive and
individual. But the terrain is so rocky in many places that it’s
necessary to follow a single soft track that has been worn with
time. Also the horses get excited by the herd and riding single
file has a calming influence.

As we set off with the rain bucketing down and a mist
descending, I had the feeling we’d inadvertently signed up for
an endurance test. I was right in that the ride was a challenge,
Mother Nature showed us her full range of tricks as the week
progressed and we had more than our fair share of wind and rain.
But as the days went by I also knew we would all leave stronger
and enriched by our experience.

The Icelandic horses are just wonderful, such characters,
really great dispositions and so endearing. We changed horses at
least once, sometimes twice every day, and travelled with a
herd. In total we had 96 horses with us for 20 guests!
The herd travelled either in front or behind us and I could
never tire of watching them arrive or depart from our lunch spot
or a midway grazing spot. Though little over 14hh, these little
horses ride a lot bigger than they are and carry heavier riders
with ease. Of all the horses I rode I had two favourites,
Gudmunder, a little affectionate bay with a light mouth and easy
tolt and Heimir, a dun who was a little stockier and had such a
smooth trot it was hardly necessary to tolt at all.

For the most part the terrain was rugged, with a moonscape of
rocks as far as the eye could see, then it would give way to
soft trails and deep spongy grass. We’d stop and graze the
horses whenever we reached a green spot, dismounting to rest
their backs. It was always a pleasure to watch them graze and
see the herd arrive or depart. For three days the large glaciers
of Langjkull and Hofsjkull towered above the proceedings and
on day four we had the excitement of three glacial river
crossings
- don’t forget your long rubber boots for this
one! It’s a great experience and the horses make light work of
the crossing despite the strong currents.

Our days range from four to seven hours in the saddle and by
the time we reach our evening’s mountain hut, we’re ravenous.
Siegrun has gone ahead with the kitchen truck and when we
arrive, dinner is almost ready and never disappoints. Each
night’s meal is different and we are treated to Icelandic
staples such as Icelandic soup. She also brings meat from her
farm, and the men catch fish at a couple of points along the
trail. Despite the challenging facilities of a mountain hut, the
food is marvellous. It astounds me how well she manages to cook
for 30 people.

It was really something to experience the tolt, the fifth gait
unique to the Icelandic horse. It’s like a running walk and
very smooth to sit to. It allows them to glide over the
rugged countryside. A four-beat gait, often referred to as a
running walk, the footfalls are back left, front left, back
right, front right. It’s a fully natural gait which can be
observed in wild youngsters. As we were covering a lot of ground
each day, we spent much of our time in tolt. At least that was
the aim — with some horses it can take a while to find the tolt
button so this is also a good holiday in which to develop a
deep-seated sitting trot!

The last day was a dream ride for most of us as Lola asked us
the night before which our favourite horses were and we were all
granted our wishes. It was a fast ride with the herd up ahead
all day and the horses keen to make it to their grazing grounds.
As the landscape got greener and civilisation came into view,
any hardship of the past week was forgotten and nobody wanted to
reach the end. After many long days in the saddle, in all
weathers, that last dismount still came too soon.

Traveling and Accidents

November 15th, 2008

Keeping Lives Safe on the Road

Accidents do happen unexpectedly, but they can be avoided.

However, despite the fact that a lot of people are trying their best to avoid it, still, many are in danger in the road while traveling. They will never know when an accident will take place. In fact, it seems that the number of people who gets into accidents while traveling is continuously growing.

In 2003 alone, statistics show that over 6 million car accidents have been reported in the United States, and in those accidents about 2.9 million were injured and 42, 643 people were killed. That is, indeed, a very alarming figure considering the fact that the campaigns about driving safely and avoiding road accidents are in full force.

So, where does the problem lies? Is it on the driver, the car manufacturer, the government, or is it fate for most people who get into accidents? In reality, nobody can really tell who to blame. The only choice people have is to continue driving safely and avoid accidents.

However, in the event that accidents happen, the only way to solve the mishap is to deal with it. Here’s how:

1. Emergency numbers in one’s mobile phone are extremely important.

People just don’t realize this yet, but the emergency numbers stored in their mobile phones are vital to one’s life, especially when away from home or while traveling.

Surveys show that people who usually survive in accidents are those who were attended to immediately by health experts. This goes to show that immediate actions are important so as to save people who have met accidents.

2. Panic is the number one killer in an accident.

The reason why many people do not survive in an accident is because they tend to panic first. They get so panic-stricken that they can no longer clear their mind and think of ways how to deal with the dilemma. That is why it is extremely important to stay calm when accidents and happen and think of ways how to solve the problem.

3. Prevention is still the number one remedy.

Today, car accidents are currently the top most causes of death, usually within the age bracket of 1 to 37. Hence, the majority of the drivers, who are prone to accidents, are young. Usually the causes of accidents in young people are speeding, reckless driving, not wearing seatbelts, and drunk driving.

And so, it is important to observe traffic rules and regulations so as to prevent road accidents while traveling. As they say, an ounce of prevention is better than a pound of cure.

How Costa Blanca is Putting the Spa in Spain

November 15th, 2008

Bea Geenen can recommend a great way to start the day. It involves covering herself - and her husband, if he’s handy - in mud, then steam-blasting it off. A close second is wrapping herself in algae and sweating it out beneath a hot blanket. Then she heads off to work.

“It’s a fantastic way to get going in the morning or to relax on your day off. It’s great for couples too,” says Bea, a house doctor (she advises people on how to spruce up their property to sell it) who lives in Alfas del Pi near Benidorm.

Bea is a spa junkie. It’s an addiction she feeds at least once a month, or whenever a new spa emerges on the coast. And she’s not alone as the Costa Blanca is fast developing a reputation for being the spa capital of Spain - the region that puts the spa in Spain.

In the 400km stretch between the vast Marina d’Or holiday village two hours north of Alicante airport, which boasts the Europe’s largest ’scientific spa’, and the new spa at La Manga Club, the famous sports resort two hours south of Alicante, luxury spas are sprouting up by the handful to satisfy the demands of the growing numbers of tourists visiting this popular eastern Spanish coastline.

In 2002-2003, passengers numbers at Alicante airport rose by 56.4%, compared with 26.5% at Malaga airport. Given a perfect year-round climate, and cheaper property prices than on the Costa del Sol, more British and Irish people than ever before want to spend holidays, and own holiday homes, in the Costa Blanca.

Combine this with our general increasing awareness of the need to keep healthy, and the fact that certain areas of the Costa Blanca, particularly around Torrevieja’s natural salt lakes, are deemed by the World Health Organisation to be the healthiest places to live in the world, and you can see why spas on this coast are big business.

“We are seeing a big increase in the number of luxury spas opening on the Costa Blanca, mainly due to the huge numbers of tourists who come here and because people are far more aware of the need for ‘wellness’ and stress-relief,” says Inés Terrn, director of the Health And Beauty Centre at the five-star Hesperia Alicante Golf & Spa Hotel www.hesperia-alicante.com with an 18-hole golf course overlooking San Juan beach. Prices start at 129 euros for a day at the spa where treatments range from subaquatic massages to seven-day Like A Queen programmes for women who know they’re worth it.

“Women work more than before and they want a healthy balance and a good level of living, so they use spas like ours as a form of stress relief and to treat themselves,” says Inés. But men, too, are queuing up to be pampered, she says. “About 40% of our clients now are men. They particularly like massages and facials.”

Bea Geenen, who says winter is her favourite spa-sampling time as all those hot wraps can feel cloying in summer, cites the Marriott La Sella Golf Resort’s holistic Alanya Spa www.alanyaspa-denia.com in Denia as her number one Costa Blanca spa.

“The service is highly personalised and impeccably organised so you feel like you have the place to yourself. They treat you like a special guest from start to finish,” she says. Bea recalls with particular fondness the Turkish baths, “with a blue ceiling which twinkles like stars, and atmospheric music”.

A close second for Bea is the algae wrap at Salux Hills spa in the the five-star Hotel Melia Altea Hills www.solmelia.es, located in a nature reserve three kilometres from the picturesque town of Altea, one of the fastest-growing areas of the Alicante province.

“The algae wraps are incredible,” Bea smiles. “They scrub you down, cover you in algae and lay you on a heated water bed, wrapped in a hot blanket for half an hour. Afterwards you feel fantasic.”

Should you be seeking tranquillity in the coast’s tourist hotspot of Benidorm, the four-star Hotel Spa Levante Club www.luxor-benidorm.com, next to the town’s popular Levante beach, offers various programmes lasting two to five days for slimming, detoxing and general wellbeing. “The Levante is cheaper than many spas on the coast and everything takes place in one huge room,” says Bea. “There is a huge hot tub, Turkish baths and you can walk across Japanese stones which prick your feet to improve blood circulation. A lot of couples go there and it only costs about 30 euros a day.”

If you are already frazzled once you arrive at the airport, or are looking for a way to prepare yourself for the flight home, try the Beauty Farm Centre at the five-star Hotel Spa Sidi San Juan www.hotelessidi.es, whose programmes start at 99 euros and have such dreamy names as Day In The Clouds (for women) and Care of the Modern Man.

Down the coast, La Manga, a five-star resort favoured by golfers, tennis players and footballers wanting a spot of sun-drenched training and relaxation, benefits from its unique setting beside the warm waters of the unique Mar Menor seawater lagoon next to the Mediterranean sea.

At the new La Manga Club Spa www.spa.lamangaclub.com the local mineral-laden mud from the lagoon comes in handy for body scrubs, or you can treat your body to something more salubrious, says the spa’s Idoia Carrillo. “Our most special treatments are the caviar facial and the chocolate body wrap.”

Nearby at the three-star Entremares Hotel Balneario Marino www.entremares.com, guests at the Roman-style spa can indulge in a hot mango or strawberry among the range of aromatic showers on offer. Treatments also use the Mar Menor’s natural ingredients including algae, which is rich in minerals, vitamins and amino acids, and “magic mud”, which acts like blotting paper on your skin to absorb the toxins. The hotel also has four 35 degree Mediterranean seawater swimming pools and offers current five-night packages with five treatments included from 225 euros.

Inland from the Mar Menor, near the city of Murcia, spas tend to be more traditionally Spanish, based around natural hot water springs. They are favoured by local residents as a therapeutic place to enjoy the weekend, with less lavish - usually three-star - hotels onsite.

Around Archena, 75km south west of Alicante airport, the area is becoming known as ‘Spa Valley’, with new developments of apartments starting at £60,000 just 500 metres away from the 19th century Balneario de Archena www.balnearioarchena.com, a spa set in a Mediterranean forest with views over the Ricote valley.

The water here is famous for its medicial and therapeutic qualities and has a natural temperature of 51.7 degrees. Just further north is Fortuna-Leane www.leana.es, the oldest spa hotel in Murcia, dating back to 1860, and the perfect place for a warm dip in winter with an average water temperature of 33 degrees.

In nearby Cofrentes, the spa centre www.balneario.com/cofrentes claims to be one of the biggest and most modern in Spain, with high-tech clinics for various ailments as well as a wide pampering programme. If you’re looking for more tangible results from your spa time though, head to Marina D’Or www.marinador.com in Oropesa del Mar, north of Valencia, which offers the most high-tech medical tests available in the world, they say, able to detect any illness so that preventative measures can be taken.

Should the thought of hepato-biliopancreatic tests or polysomnographies fail to tickle your fancy on holiday, then go along to Marina d’Or’s vast 40,000m2 seawater spa and soak up the lavish surroundings, including Gaudi-style mosaics and marble columns adorning what must be the largest swimming pools and hot tubs in the world.

The Cape Verde Mortgage Process

November 13th, 2008

The Cape Verde Islands are becoming a very popular place for people to set up holiday homes for themselves or for rent to others. These investments will only increase in value over the long term as more people start to recognize the benefits of a Caribbean-style holiday in a safer, less developed, and in a more convenient location.

There are now many companies offering buyers mortgage facilities for Cape Verde and it will pay you to investigate carefully before selecting one. An expert on mortgages in Cape Verde such as International Mortgage Solutions can give you impartial advice. Before you sign a contract that commits you to buying a property, you should first decide what type of mortgage you can secure. One should always be certain of their finances before signing a Contrato Promessa de Compra e Venda, as breaking it can have vast financial penalties.

Mortgage companies may offer terms ranging anywhere from 15 to 35 years. This particular idea offers redemption of your mortgage at 60, as opposed to 75 with the majority of programs. While numerous businesses offer loans of up to 70% of the acquisition price or the appraisal (whichever number is less) some businesses will offer nearly 85%.

When buying a property through a mortgage, you will likely find that your end financing and purchasing costs total 7% of the property price. This percentage breaks down as follows: 1% for personal legal costs; 3% of the amount borrowed for mortgage registry costs; 3% of the purchase price for Notary and Land Registry costs; approximately 2% for various mortgage and valuation fees.

Here is what you will need to qualify for a non-resident’s mortgage: You must have proof of income. That would be at least three pay slips. You will also need P60 forms dating back two or three years. Additionally, you will need to have at least six months worth of bank statements. People who are self-employed will have to show 3 years worth of their copies of personal and business tax returns and bank statements. You will also be required to present copies of your passports and proof of your residential address, both certified. You may be asked for translated copies of these documents; a bilingual attorney can help with this request.
