Grand Snowfall across the French Alps

There’s been about 2 metres snow in the last seven days. The snow has been so heavy that lifts have been shut, the local train was stopped at the Chamonix train station and not heading up to Le Tour and delays with Geneva transfers. Roads were closed and weather warnings published.

This is in direct contrast to a couple of winter seasons past, when we experienced the unusually mild Jan conditions, rocks showing on the pistes, and reports that global warming would mean the death of skiing in France. Indeed the OECD’s report from 2006 admonished that climate change could make ski holidays far too pricey for a lot of snowboarders, with a third of ski domains going bust with the thawing of glaciers. Glaciologists assert that it is nearly impossible to ascribe the seasonal variations in the snow conditions to the results of global warming.

We might have the deepest recession in 25 yrs, and the Sterling has headed to record levels compared to the Euro, but the snowboarding is exceptional, and the latest bookings show that boarders are keen to enjoy the superior skiing conditions. Its definitely the finest in ten seasons, and lots of skiers are stating it is the finest ski snowboarding snow in at least ten winter seasons.

Nonetheless recall that snow like this means significant risks of avalanche.
